Napoli have officially made contact with Manchester United as they explore the possibility of signing Danish striker Rasmus Højlund. While no agreement has been reached yet, discussions are underway and could develop further in the coming days.
The Serie A champions are in need of extra firepower following Romelu Lukaku’s injury setback, and Højlund has emerged as a realistic target. At just 22, the forward is still considered a player with huge potential, despite struggling to consistently deliver since his big-money move to Old Trafford last year.
Reports suggest Napoli are keen on a loan deal with an option to buy, rather than committing to a permanent transfer straight away. Manchester United, meanwhile, are understood to value Højlund at around £40 million (€45M) — a figure that might make negotiations tricky. Earlier this year, United were demanding closer to €60 million, a price Napoli considered far too steep.

There has even been speculation of a possible swap deal involving Victor Osimhen, although such an arrangement would be extremely complex and currently looks unlikely. For now, a structured loan seems the most realistic path if Højlund is to make the move to Italy.
For Manchester United, the situation is delicate. Højlund was brought in as a long-term project, but after a tough first season, questions remain about whether he fits into the club’s future plans. A loan move could give him the chance to rebuild confidence in Serie A, while also easing United’s financial burden.
For Napoli, the deal could be a smart piece of business. Højlund’s pace, strength, and ability to run in behind defenses fit well with their attacking style. If he can rediscover the form that made him one of Europe’s most sought-after young strikers at Atalanta, he could prove to be a bargain.
As of now, no contract has been signed between the two clubs — these are still early negotiations. But the fact that Napoli have formally contacted United shows their interest is genuine. With the transfer window heating up, this is a story worth keeping a close eye on.
If terms can be agreed, Højlund could be returning to Serie A sooner than expected, this time in Napoli’s famous sky-blue shirt.
