Bournemouth in Advanced Talks with Chelsea Over Axel Disasi Loan Deal

Bournemouth are working on an exciting move as they look to strengthen their defence, with talks ongoing over a deal to sign Axel Disasi from Chelsea. The proposed agreement would see the French defender join the Cherries on a season-long loan with an option to buy, giving the south-coast club a chance to add both quality and experience to their backline.

Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola looking to strengthen defence

Disasi only joined Chelsea from AS Monaco in the summer of 2023 in a deal worth around £38 million. Brought in as part of Chelsea’s massive squad rebuild, the France international quickly showed glimpses of his quality with strong performances in the Premier League. However, with fierce competition for places at Stamford Bridge and Chelsea continuing to balance their squad depth, opportunities for regular first-team football have been limited.

That is where Bournemouth have stepped in. Andoni Iraola’s side are keen to reinforce their defensive options, particularly after injuries disrupted their backline last season. Disasi, at 26, fits the profile perfectly: a powerful central defender with Champions League experience and the versatility to slot into different defensive systems.

For the player himself, the move could also prove to be a crucial step. With UEFA Euro 2025 qualifiers and future French national team call-ups in mind, Disasi will be eager to play week in, week out at the highest level. Bournemouth can provide that platform, while also offering him the chance to prove himself in one of the most competitive leagues in the world.

From Bournemouth’s perspective, the option-to-buy clause makes this a smart piece of business. It allows the club to test the fit of Disasi within their squad without committing to a permanent deal right away. If he impresses, they can make the transfer permanent; if not, they retain flexibility for future moves.

Chelsea, meanwhile, benefit by potentially moving on a player who is currently not central to their plans, while also creating space in the squad for other signings.

Talks between the two clubs are understood to be progressing well, though no deal has been finalized yet. Should it go through, Disasi would follow in the footsteps of several players who have rejuvenated their careers by moving from a top-six side to a club where regular playing time is guaranteed.

For Bournemouth fans, the thought of seeing a France international defender in their colours is certainly an exciting prospect. And for Disasi, this could be the perfect stage to remind everyone of the qualities that earned him a move to Chelsea in the first place.
