Sunderland signed Dutch goalkeeper Robin Roefs from NEC Nijmegen for an undisclosed fee.

Sunderland AFC has officially declared the signing of Robin Roefs, a rising Dutch goalkeeper, from NEC Nijmegen. This transfer, which is valued at £9 million plus an additional £2.5 million in performance based bonuses, represents a significant investment by the Sunderland as they gear up for the upcoming season.

Dutch Goalkeeper Roefs: Career So Far

Born in Heeswijk, Netherlands, young goalkeeper Roefs began his football journey with VV Heeswijk before moving to NEC Nijmegen in 2014. Past season, Roefs became NEC’s first-choice goalkeeper, playing 42 matches across all competitions. He impressed by keeping 13 clean sheets and helping NEC finish 8th in the Eredivisie.
Internationally, Roefs shined at the UEFA U21 European Championship, playing a key role in the Netherlands’ run to the semi-finals, where they were knocked out by the eventual winners, England.
